Hello readers, you might be using some kind of app lockers to protect your apps. Well, it depends on you for what you use an app lock for. But, teenagers tend to use it normally for hiding their precious conversations! You know what I mean!

Anyways, whatever may be the reason, most of us use them (at least had it installed once). Now, we’ve come across a great app locker – “Hexlock”. According to the Play Store description, it is one of the best apps of 2015 made in Canada. We’ll review the app for you to help decide whether you should or shouldn’t try it.

Commencing the review process …

Package Size

The lower the app size, the more space you get to install other apps. So, package size is one of the important aspects of the review process. Hexlock is of 4.14 MB in size. It is compact, but not as light as we expected with a simple approach (considering the basic features, and options)

In-App Advertisements

Observing advertisements inside the app is annoying. I completely understand! Personally, I hate the apps which include in-app advertisements (excluding some). So, we’ve considered this as one of the aspects to rate an app. If an app includes in-app Ads, then it affects the ratings on the basis of User Interface.

After installing Hexlock, we definitely observed in-app ads. And, that was affecting the UI. Among millions of apps available on the Play Store, very few of them have successfully implemented beautiful in-app advertisements. Though you can still pay 10 INR ($0.15) to remove those ads. It’s a very fair price to remove in-app ads. Moreover, if you don’t pay them 10 INR and stick with the advertisements, they are going to get more revenue than the amount payable. So, the choice is yours.

User Interface

It has a really simple but clean and attractive UI. It is indeed responsive and fast. Normally, a user expects fancy design effects or transition animations baked in while talking about an app from a top developer, but it doesn’t require such additions. Simplicity is a plus to this application. Well, the good news – Material design comes right baked in.

Customization Ability

Nowadays, users are moving on to use the applications which offer more customizability. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case with hexlock. It’s too simple, with options to customize only the background of the lock screen (specific colors or a desired picture).

Features

It comes with the ability to create, apply and switch profiles. You can also set custom profiles with the desired profile name. Hexlock can automatically switch profiles (Wi-Fi network detection) if you’ve enabled Auto-Activate option from the app settings. However, the exciting switching techniques like – switching according to location, Bluetooth devices etc aren’t available with this app.

Performance

App lockers aren’t preferred if you are encountering lags/crashes while opening an app. Hexlock consumed 22 MB of memory (as an average) and 102 MB (maximum) as observed in the Moto X Play running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Fortunately, we didn’t encounter any lags/crashes or any kind of error. So, it’s smooth and fast.

Final Verdict

Hexlock is a great app locker considering the UI, performance, and quality of the app. However, it isn’t a feature-rich app locker. If you like basic but quality coded apps, it should be your choice. And, paying 10 INR for removing advertisements is definitely worth it.
